Default A few mustang questions

I have the 8.8 rear what gears usually come in those...3.73?

How good are the manual trannies in the 5.0...

I have a welded rear or spool is that going to destroy a lot of stuff for a daily driver.

I wish they came with 3.73's. They usually come with either 2.73's or 3.08. If you look on your driverside door where the vin and other info is, there is an axle code. 'D' means 3.08 gears. I forgot what the 2.73 code was. Obviously it wil be different than 'D'

Oh, well that changes things a bit. My guess ius you probably have 3.08's. One way to tell is by your rpms on the highway. My car with 3.08's is about 1650rpm @ 60mph. As for the durability of the transmission, I have no clue. i recently acquired my 95 5-speed. However, they are rated to 300rwtq on the stock clutch and T-5. Obviously, you could get more out of it with a better clutch. But I wouldn't get too crazy with it. A mild H/C/I would probably work though. As for the rearend, the 8.8 are pretty strong. I have a stock rearend and run 7.5 in the eighth( about an 11.6 quarter). So it can withstand some pretty hard launches.

If you actually have a spool, I highly doubt its got 3.08s or 2.73s attached to it. Welded rear maybe. The biggest killer of T-5s is the person driving it.

The only thing the spool will hurt is your ability to take turns and accelerate at the same time. No differential wheel speed unless the car is coasting.

it's not "d" in the door tag

an 8.8 will have m= 2.73, z=3.08 or e=3.27 (aod's only)

just raise the rear... mark the tire and driveshaft w/ chalk

count how many spins of the DS for 1 complete revolution of the tire and thats your gear

3 1/2 turns = 3.55 get it ???

Thanks for correcting me. I knew E was 3.27 but I knew manual's back in 94-95 could not be optioned with those gears, only auto's. And I do not know why I thought D. MY silver Mustang has 3.08's. I couldn't check the code and give him the letter though since I am out of town.
