WHAT CAM SHOULD I USE?!
Okay, I have a 5.0 HO that I am getting rebuilt and bored .30 over. I already have a few parts for the motor including Trickflow upper/lower intake, a BBK 65mm throttle body, and 65mm BBK cold air kit. Everything else is stock including the rear end. I am looking to get a good MILD cam that will up my horsepower but keep my car streetable. I know I will probably catch s*#t from a few people, but because of money, I can't get heads for it right now. I plan on doing so in the next year or so. But my questions are, what are good, mild cams for me to consider that will work well with my intake parts and with these things done, will I have to get my computer worked over as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys!

what year is the car? fox body's can get away with that type of stuff without needing a tune, altho after getting the heads in a while I would suggest one. Now i'm not a cam guy so i'll leave that to other people. But everyone's gonna say get heads first, a pair of gt40's with matched springs for whatever cam would prolly be about 3-4 hundred. i'd suggest saving up for that before you put the motor back together.

you got the trickflow upper and lower intake..get the trickflow stage 1 cam..its good mild cam that has a nice agressive sound..plus..when you wanna add the heads you can get a nice set of twisted wedge heads to match everything...

alright stupid question here guys. i've been wondering this tho. if someone like this, who already has the motor out of the car, why shouldn't they get a new cam?
sure they won't feel a difference, but it'll be there, installed, degreed correctly by the shop, done much easier out of the car than in, and ready for when they get heads. so why not drop her in?? its not going to hurt anything having it in there. it just won't help anything either.

more often than not, a cam swap with stock heads loses power

thanks guys for all of your help. but would my cam be hurting anything AFTER i got my computer tuned? even if its just a mild cam and everything was set right with the computer? and would there be any gain in getting stock heads ported and polished and with new valve springs, rocker arms, etc.?

and putting money into the stock heads is one of the biggest wastes of our time and effort.
no matter how much you polish a turd... its still a turd
