Arrow Please!!!!! help with engine choice

Hi guys I am torn between a engine choice. My current plans are a 302 with cobra intake and vortech s trim pushing 10psi boost with vortech power cooler

or I could sell everything for my 302 and bulid a 460 big block with the money from the parts (around $3000 plus another $1500)

keep in mind the car will be a street car and sometimes will be down the strip

Let me get your opinion thanks Charlie

Ford big blocks are garbage. Ford made great small blocks, but the worst big blocks of any of the big 3. You're better off putting a 351 stroker of some size in, than going that route. They're heavy, gutless, and you'll just run into problem after problem. You also have to remember, say the big block is 200lbs heavier, you need that much more power from a big block, compared to a 302, just to power the extra weight of itself.

Stick with the 302, they're a lot lighter, and with 10psi, unless you pour an extra 5 or 6 grand into a big block, it'd never keep up.

460 "BASED" block :P and if he's making that kind of power, he's got probably 50 grand into that engine, if not more. You have to compare apples to apples. It's just like me saying, I have a buddy (well not really a buddy, long time friend of the family, owns the local performance retail shop) that makes 950 horse on a 302 Based block in a Grand Am, and held the record for awhile in NHRA. Apples to apples.

I'd stick with the 302, throw on some 1.7 rockers, gt40 heads and intake and throw on the supercharger.

You're opening up a can of worms here.

It really depends on the displacement and year of the BB, but Ford made some great BB's.

OP, I'd stick with the FI 302.

stick with the 302. if its primarily a street car, youll get better miliage out of the 302 then out of the 460

more cubes will always make more power with the right air to feed it. however for your avg joe a 302 with a blower will be plenty for a street car
