Default Brake help

So my car makes this horrific sound when i brake, not a squeak, sounds like im driving over gravel, and the worse it gets the harder i brake or when im coming closest to stop, i had the pads changed, not to to long ago, but i was told at that time the brakes were shot and id need a brake job eventually but didnt have the money to do it so just had the pads done as a temp hold over knowing everything was already shot.

So anyways i still dont have much money and labor for these brake jobs are a bitch so id just do it myself since im mechanically inclined, so what would i need to replace, rotors, calipers , new pads?

All help is appreciated, ive only ever worked on my engine, not my brakes so i dont have any experience with this.

And they are disc brakes in the front, drums in the back, sound is coming from front right

Well first off people over exaggerate how hard brakes are. What did your rotors look like when you replaced that pads. Mine sounded like that because my shoes were worn down to the rivets.

Well only a retard would put pads on with bad rotors. But it is still a possibility.

Pull the back wheels and drums off and see what's up.

When I got my car, I found out the bonded wearing surface of one shoe seperated from the shoe itself and was useless since it was sitting next to the other shoe.

If the rotors are flat(no scores in the wearing surface) and your brake pads are not squeaking in the front, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Check the rear shoes and see how much brake lining is still on them, if it is on them.

Back up front, make sure the caliper slide pins are fine. They can potentially break if not removed properly. They can also cause only one of the brake pads in the front to be used in braking as the slide will not pull the other onto the rotor.

Yeah, I'd pop the wheels off and check the rotors and pads. If you need a set of rotors you'll need to repack the bearings and install them into the new rotors.

The rear shoes aren't all that hard to do,it looks a little intimidating with the springs and shoes. Grab a Haynes manual and you can use it as a reference.Another trick too is,if you're doing the rear brakes leave one side together so that if you forget how is goes together you can walk around the car and see, then continue on with the repairs.

Just post if you have any questions we can all walk yah through stuff.

lol yea it does

the back drums are fine as of now, the gravel crunching sound is coming from the front right disc brake.
