Default Racing motor for my 92' GT

I have a 92' gt 5.0, the mods are GT 40 tubular intake, GT 40 P heads, B 303 cam, BBK 70 mm throttle bodie, bigger injectors and MAF, K&N round filter, Ford Motorsport headers, X pipe, flowmaster mufflers, Aluminumn driveshaft, 4:10 gears, Hotchicks rear lower trailing arms, rear sway bar, cervini cowl hood, hurst shifter, King cobra clutch, some other stuff, but that is all on the running gear. I am looking into getting into drag racing. I have no experience with racing mustangs or building engines. I was into imports for years, I have finally made the switch to real cars. (ha ha) I want to put together a nice motor to do some racing with. Looking for opinions. I talked to a local machine shop and they were pushing toward a 347 build. I guess my question is will I notice a big difference from what I already have. I have a budget of abour $4000 but would like to do it for the best bang for the buck. I know I am going to switch to a Carb set up. I have people whom can help me put the motor together, rather that paying the machine shop. I was thinking of a 351 build, but dont know where to start. I was gonna look for a used motor from a salvage yard, but what were the 351 in and do I want a W??? Anyone help me out?? Thanks for your time.

351w from a 1994-1996 truck, those model years will accept a roller cam without modifications.
stroke it to 408.
210cc heads, rpm air gap intake with a 750 holley.
crane custom cam
torque MONSTER

Keep the EFI 302 and throw on a turbo and be done with it. 500+rwhp easily!

I see the cost of a turbo kit is almost what it wouild cost for a motor. What would be needed to be done to the motor to support the boost? Not really the way I want to go though.

if it's gonna be a 408 better feed it with more than a 750...heck my 347 uses a 750 capable of 780, also ditch the rpm in favor of a victor series intake, you'll gain so much more

^^^^^before my reconfigure of my combo I was running a small standard classic holley 650 dp, I upgraded to a Bigs performance holley stage 5 hp custom built for my combo and a custom cam was added and I had the snot ported out of the air gap intake and wow, this thing was a whole new beast, still tunning it, but hopefully it'll be ready for the track in a month cool weathers a comin'!!!!

225cc heads, good cam, and intake and it wouldent be to hard to make 500horse on the 408w motor alone.
