Default Opinions on VHT please

So did anyone ever use the VHT rattle can hi-temp paint w/ceramic? Im tempted to try but I have always had bad luck with similar products like the dupli-color hi-temp. BTW im painting a set of longtubes.

I used some VHT flame proof to paint my shorty headers, as long as you prep the headers well you should have good luck with it. I had horrible results with duplicolor crap (it just flaked right off) but like i said i had a different outcome with VHT. Just use as few coats as possible.

when it came to painting the block or accessory brackets and so forth the VHT crap never was the right color, but since your painting exhaust go for it, 2 years ago I painted from my x-pipe back on my 85 with duplicolor cast coat aluminum, still looks flawless

Yea im gonna use duplicolor on my block heads, and intake manifold. But as far as headers im gonna go with vht, like Onyx said, all my attemps on headers with duplicolor resulted in flaking. I think I am going to VHT my whole exhaust.

Yeah i used Duplicolor on my intake manifold and other stuff, but leave the high temp applications to the real paint lol.

^^I just don't bother painting the headers, sooner or later it all burns off

I've used VHT several times with good results.
First, Get the headers glass beaded, all the old coatings have to be off. Then, wipe them down with paint thinner.
When you spray the VHT, use lotsa thin coats. I always was able to put the headers outside in the sun for awhile before I paintes, I think it makes a differance.
Let them dry for at least 24 hours before you try and install them....
Good Luck!!!!

Tinman, about letting them out in the sun. Did you do that between coats or just before you painted. Is the paint more effective when the metal is warmer.

not VHT flameproof paint, it bakes on and stays there; even aircraft coating remover doesn't touch the paint once it's baked on.

I used the VHT on a spot I had to weld up on our turbo header and it is sticking to it just fine and it is not burning off. and they get HOT hotter then just your standard headers ever do.
