Default Any Pointers ?

I have a 91 lx 5.0 5 speed (120K) with some minor mods. Im changing out some gaskets to fix some leaks. My goal is to eventually increase the HP, but Im not a mechanic by any means. I need some advise for while the motor is being worked on. I dont want to repeat tearing the motor down so what are some things I should look for or possibly do while the gaskests are being changed out ? Im sure this is a vague question and im dealing with a small budget but if I can do a little at a time , it might save me some time and money. Thanks !

If you're replacing the headgaskets, then a head swap would be your best upgrade as the stock 5.0 cylinder heads are TRASH.

Any aftermarket head out there will make good power over stock.

Thanks, I purchased a pcv valve, that will go in when the work starts. As for the gaskets that need it : timing cover gasket, rear main, distributor, valve covers. Those are the obvious. Like I said Im a beginner when it comes to mechanics, but I bought a complete engine gasket kit. Im thinking of replacing everything until I get to the bottom most leak. I also got a bunch of goodies for a tune up during the work. Thanks for your imput.

there are plenty of mods you could do but budget comes to mind as well as you ability.
