Question speedo help?

the story thus far.... i bought my 1985 5.0 H.O stang from a guy about 4 months ago. when i drove it home and tore into it to see what was wrong with it (which turned out to be various things...) i realized that the car had no pilot bearing. after a clutch, flywheel, pilot bearing and throwout bearing install/reinstall the car seemed fine. a few months later the tranmission began to make noise and eventually stripped 7 teeth off of third gear. i traded off the busted t5 for a virtually new t56. i did my homework and this seems like a really good tranmission. the only problem is im not sure if the gear inside the transmission for my speedometer will match the one on my cable. my motor is out having machine work done or i would simply install the trans and find out for myself. does anyone know if the gears match for an accurate speedo reading, and if not where i could get a gear that would work?
