I might go with a man o war block. An engine shop near me has 23 of them brand new for $800 or I could use a xxx block for $600 completely machined

^^^^^^^those better not be those man o war blocks I saw on ebay that are machined for a special crank = you need that special crank and it is very expensive so after you buy the kit needed you won't be coming out ahead...your not getting something for nothing, there is always a catch at why something is cheap.

Figure out that when you are at machine shop you need...
1) overbore and hone all cylinders with plate.
2) line bore mains
3) deck head surfaces
4) new cam bearings
5) clean block (hot tank preferably)
THEN
New set of pushrods, probably custom length.....
And, that's sort of a minimum....
