How long does first gear last haha.
depends on tire size, assuming 225/55/16, @ 25mph, 3,000rpms(2.73), 3360(3.08) or 3575(3.27)

check the door tag axle code

its easier to accelerate for the engine, the torque is multiplied greater, therefore its easier for 300ft-lbs x 3.35 x 3.73 to move a car then 300ft-lbs x 3.35 x 2.73(simplified explanation)

Most automatics have 2.73s and most manuals have 3.08s.

I had 3.73s in my 95 stang alittle to high of a gear for my taste, but than again i'm not going to the drags or nothing like that. So I bought some 3.55s i'm putting them in springtime.

False, at least for foxes. The majority had 2.73's regardless of manual or auto.

I went from 2.73 to 3.55's and love them, you still have a pretty good first gear and plenty of go on the highway. I laughed for the first 2 miles I drove it. HUGE difference. 5th gear pulls like 3rd gear did and 1, 2, 3 all pull real hard. As far as the mileage goes, difference between the two would be negligable.

OK, you drive a mustang and you're worried about gas mileage? You're kidding right?

again depending on tire size and I believe the gearing is steeper in the 4cyl trans

2.73s were standard on coupes and hatches, 3.08s were optional, and 3.27 was on verts
