Default Required Reading....

Ok been reading these forums for a while now and I've seen a couple posts that went something like I have this this and this but no power whats wrong.... two posts later some one simply says get a book on engines and the come back when you have your knowledge base a little bit larger. And then commence the flaming. Non of which I disagree but before I make the same mistake and say I wanna push my DD 400rwhp+ and get mid to low 8's on the track. Let me back track and say I know nothing about engines and am just looking for some books to reference or simply to read about so I can come back here and ask specific questions and actually know what the hell I'm talking about. So to sum it all up.

Suggestions for me to get started into reading about engines and all there wonders magical powers to make my car go fast.

i hope you are talking mid to low 8's in the 1/8th mile...

if so, buy a procharger, change your valve springs, and get a tune

400 hp won't give you anywhere close to an 8 at the track in the 1/4 mile in a mustang, somewhere in the 11's more like it, cruise summit racings website and click on the books link and look for mustang, how to build a sbf book

Ok sarcasm failed me. But I've just read a few people say "Get a book and understand the engine then come back" or something to that effect. So I was curious if anyone could point me in the right direction.
