Man im pissed...
So the engine i built a while back started knocking, and i havnt been driving it because i just havnt had money to even think about fixing it.
I had a phone conversation with my mom today, and shes like i probably shouldnt tell you this because your dad told me not to tell you but i feel bad so im gonna tell you. I guess my dad had a job at the shop that required a torque wrench, and it ended up coming back so he sent his torque wrench back to snap-on. Snap-on deemed it 'defective' and sent him a new one. Well it was the same torque wrench i built my motor with... and he told her he thinks thats why my motor lasted only a couple thousand miles before it started knocking. All this time i've been asking his advice where he thinks i should start in order to fix it. idk why he didnt just tell me, its gotta come all the way apart now no two ways about it.
Sorry... just had to vent my frustration to a crowd that actually understands the importance of proper torque. lol...

damn that sucks, i can't believe your dad would hold something like that from you! That's insane, good luck with the rebuild man. At least you know this time around it wasn't something you did wrong.

idk exact specifics... keep in mind, this was in my MOMS terms. I have no idea what service he did on his customers car that messed up to make him suspect his torque wrench. And i have no idea what snap-on said about the wrench. I just know it was 'defective'.
& I know onyx, i agree! I'm not surprised though, he's an ******* and doesnt support my mustang hobby one bit. In fact he hates them. He didnt even help me out and he's a mechanic, he sat there and watched me do the entire thing every weekend while he sat in his garage and watched nascar as usual.
I'll figure it out when i confront him though.

If the torque wrench is out. It's probably out a few percent. If it was out like 20%. I'd doubt it would hurt anything but like main cap bolts.
Small things like connecting rod bolts. Here you will need some decent accuracy. Overtorquing a rod bolt can easily stretch it.
In the meantime. I'd try to figure out how far out that wrench was and if it was over or under torquing. Then take your engine apart to see what failed. It may never even be bolt torque related.
