The reason I think it has something to do with the egr gases not being able to escape is because after I cut the gasket, the car started running a lot better. Before the that it would barely run at all and it was blowing over the gasket causing a very loud whistle.

I cut the piece that I circled in this picture.

I'm assuming you don't have your coolant lines hooked up to your egr plate? Otherwise you would be sucking coolant down your intake. I can't see how cutting that gasket made any difference. It's shaped like that for a reason.

I have an egr delete plate in place of the egr spacer. The gas was blowing through that part of the gasket. I cut the gasket and it quit surging and dying quite a bit but still stalls out when its warm.

I just did the base idle reset and I think this may have actually fixed it! I will let you know soon, I have the battery disconnected now.

It worked! For the first 20 minutes or so of driving it would still stall if I let it but I took it out on a back road, did a bunch of starts and stops, ran through reverse/n/d and it started to straighten out. It hasn't stalled after that.
