Default Back from the Track

Well, two weeks ago I threw on some GT-40 heads(from a 93 Cobra) and a 95 Cobra intake manifold on for some extra power. Got everything for $600 w/gaskets and such. So tonight I took it to the local 1/8th to compare what it ran before to now.

GT-40 set-up
60ft: 2.31
330ft: 6.20
1/8th: 9.41@76.25

Stock H/I
60ft: 2.32
330ft: 6.36
1/8th: 9.77@71.86

I know the car is not super fast. The main problem is the 3.08 gears. The car just won't get out of the hole. I should get it to run a 9.2 as is if I can just launch a bit better. 1200rpm, the car bogs and 1500+the car spins. On street tires there is no happy medium. I guess all this proves is that the E7 heads and stock intake are junk. Before I had to shift at 5000rpm and now I take it to 5800rpm.

Oh! And complete mods are full exhaust, K&N, GT-40 heads, Cobra intake, 16* timing. That's it!

Thanks! Will do with the tires! That's the benefit of working at Discount Tire I was thinking about throwing some Nitto Drags on the rear and then also using them for my S/C'ed Mustang since all it has is wimpy 245/45-17 BF-G's on them. Losing traction at 70mph is no fun

I actually think a slick will bog the motor and slow you down. An ez-street tire will spin a little and get you more mph

this is a 5-speed car right? I don't see a stock auto running a 9 something

im always surprised by how HORRIBLE the stock heads are!

5mph from gt40's and a stock intake is insane! I hope to go from 91mph trap to 101mph trap with my new mods

If it is an auto.... get a stall, some gears, and some sticky tires. lol What did I tell you when you first got this car about it being another money pit?

Don't agree. My wifes basically stock vert went from a 15.1 to a 14.3 just by adding a set of slicks.

I have seen many cars slow down from running a slick over a nitto tire. yeah, it will be faster than a sure enough street tire but, a nitto drag radial like mentioned will do better than a slick.

Granted the cars I have seen had a bit more gear and were 5-speed foxes but, basically the same set-up motor wise.

no i think u misunderstood him... he said "sticky" not "crappy"

don't even waste your money with nittos you'll still pull 2.x's with them. go mickey thompson and you can hit 1.7's with a big launch... the gears might hold you down to 1.9's but every tenth of sixty is worth 2 tenths ET

4.10's plus a sticky tire and you should run mid 12's

Thanks everyone. And Ooopps, sorry everybody, the car is a 5-spd. And yeah 302, this car is beyond a $$ pit. Every time I turn around I have to throw something new at it. And while the Nitto's aren't that great, for me they worked okay. Infact, when they were completely bald I was able to knock down 1.8 60ft's. When they were in their peak, I normally got 2.0's, like you said Nitrous.
My auto Mustang with full bolton's, ported GT-40 intake and 4.10's ran a 9.39@77 best. Adding TF heads took me to a 9.31@79. The cam and stall is what launched me into the mid-low 8's. So gears would really launch this thing. I'd like some 3.55's or maybe 3.73's, but 80mph@2100rpm with the 3.08's is nice too.
