Default Timing Cover

I looked but can't find an answer for this. Summit racing shows the same part number for 79-93. Is the timing cover different in any year? I have an 86 block and a timing cover off of a 92. The timing cover matches up perfectly but there is a shield (not sure of the exactly name) covering two of the bolt holes that doesnt allow the timing cover to seat all the way

Other than the fuel pump opening the covers are basically the same.

The timing cover is supposed to slide over those dowels. Some lube will help slide the cover onto them. You do not need them there if you do not want them there.

Ok, as long as the bolts go through you are fine. Just remove the dowels.
