That's a good idea. I have a spare dizzy so that sounds good. And what should I do in either of those two cases? It looks like the dowels may possibly be the cause but its hard to tell. I have tried jacking the transmission and engine in various locations with no luck

There are 6 bolts holding the bellhousing to the block. There are two small bolts holding the bottom of the block plate to the BH. There are two starter bolts through the block plate and into the bellhousing. There are two dowel pin pressed into the block that locate the BH. That's it.

If you seperate the BH from the block by 1/2" or so, that's enough for the trans snout to clear the bearing. If the angles don't match, the snout will be forced up into the splines of the clutch disc. There's a small risk of damage, but not much. It may also be hung up on the block dowels. Just pry it apart carefully.

Keep in mind that the engine is not swinging free until you seperate the BH. Once it springs free, there's a chance it will swing around and break stuff. Like fingers. That much mass can do some damage once it gets moving.

I pulled the tran's off the bellhousing and left the bellhousing attached.

I would set the motor back onto the K-member, secure it. And climb under the car to try and free the transmission.

Thats just a coat of primer. Still have some touch up to do before paint.
Then I will finally get to drop in the motor. Its just a stock build but its a roller cam instead of the flat tappet I had in there. Should be done tonight if all goes well

Not the throwout bearing. Remove transmission. Seperate engine and bellhousing then remove engine. Double check for hoses and wires that may still be connected.
