Default leaking transmission

I just bought a 1987 mustang 5.0 Lx and it started leaking transmission after I got my first transmission fluid change. we looked and it wasnt leaking from the rear seal, or the speedocable, and there was a large amount of fliuid where the bell housing bolts onto the transmission and we figured it was the front seal, so I dropped the tranny and took off the bell housing and saw the front seal was fine but theres a small metal circle next to the seal that has crack in it. Any idea if that could be the leak? or how to replace it?

that's the countershaft bearing cup and there is an o-ring on it and you press it in place, tranny will need to come apart to get it out

so even if the metal circle is cracked I just need to replace the o-ring? seems like I would need to replace the whole thing

oh cool, and can I just order it from NAPA or do I need to find it online?
and how hard is it to replace? I have a full shop(lift, tools, ect.) but I'm new to working on transmissions.

you can try ordering it from napa but if not, www.thegearbox.org will have it, call and talk to Kevin........as for repair, pull the tailshaft off , top off and output shaft with all gears on it so just the case and counter gear in the bottom is left, remove cluster gear retainer then counter gear should wiggle out, I usually have to cut one of the bearing cages off to get it out, then you can use a punch to drive out the cluster bearing cup.
