The next step?
Alright well i've done many of the main bolt ons to my car, and i want to step it up some. Im trying to decide which would be the most cost effective and performance effective route.
I own a 1989 gt, the car has about 120k on it, its got just the regular bolt ons, exhaust, intake, gears and the like. It runs great but i need more power. And i was told it smokes a little when i lay into it.
So my question is what would be the best route to take?
-What kind of power could i expect with h/c/i and a rebuild and about how
much would that set me back?
-What kind of numbers could i get with a 347 short block and h/c/i along with the cost?
-Would turbo/supercharger be a waste on a stock motor?
Any input would be appreciated.

Well unless u r rebuilding the whole engine it would be a waste to add power until u figure out why the car is smoking. Rings on the pistons is a possibility of the smoke
A 347 short block will run u roughly $2300 depending on who u go with, and with what parts, and if u do the work urself or not.
A good h/c/i will run u $2500 range, once again depends on what u go with, and u will also need to do fuel upgrades (injectors, fuel pump, regulator)
S/c, and turbo would be fine on the stock engine, but urs is "smoking" so untill u figure it out it is not recomended that u put money into power

Yeah with the smoking i just figured it was the rings, and if i did h/c/i or s/c or turbo i would just go through the motor to take car of that issue.
But realistically how much power could i expect out of a boosted 347 with an average build?

do a compression test and see if the rings are in good shape. if they are, go with h/c/i or a nice turbo kit. if the rings are bad, go with a 347 but from top to bottom your looking at around $5000 for that
5000 is right in the ballpark of what i was looking to spend, i figure if i put away 500 bucks a month in one year ill have 6000 to spend.
So far my goal is a turboed 347 and a t56 6 speed, unless theres a better way to go. But my problem is going to be finding the time to be able to work on my car, right now its all the way across the country.
If the rings were good and i did a h/c/i, or turbo kit, how much power could i get out of it? And if i did h/c/i would it be practical later on if i bought a 347 short block to use the already ran h/c/i on it? Or would heads for a 302 not flow enough for a 347?
Pretty much im lost in the sauce when it comes to heads and things like that, i just know the basics.

stock motors with turbos will usually make 400-450rwhp depending on the boost pressure.
h/c/i will get you around 310rwhp on your 302 bottom end
a turbo 347 has the potential to make 700-800rwhp (depending on parts used) so if you plan on stroking and running boost, plan on an aftermarket block because the stock block is good to only about 500rwhp

700-800 hp is what i was eventually looking to accomplish, so i guess for now ill save up and get a 347 short block and build it as i go with boost in mind.
Im hoping to get all this done within my first enlistment of 4 years, that includes a tranny swap and suspension/chassis work to support the power.
What are some good names in the turbo world that have kits? Hp, Hellion?

b&g custom makes a great fox body kit. very affordable too, about $3000 and is a bolt in kit. but youll need to upgrade the kit for 800hp. give them a call and they will tell you what to order. youll need injectors and maf and tuning after that
