Default Sensor help!!

I have an 87 lx with the 5.0 swap, 5spd. the guy that performed the swap never hooked up the maf or egr, etc. the car revs up and down when cold..ya ya. there is throttle lag.
I ran a 14.7 the 1st time i took it to the track
Is there a decent performance difference with the fixing of these?
if so is there a guide to hooking these up?

Is there anytype of electrical connection behind the cone filter? Hopefully the guy had sense to mount the cone filter onto the MAF or VAF and somehow bolt that to the TB....
A pic would help.

Without the MAF, the vehicle would run terrible, so too if it was missing the VAF which is used as part of the SD formula.

CEL on?

there are a few connections, unhooked of course, laying on the intake. I haven't looked too much, but what i've seen is the egr has nothing hooked up to it. the cel is not on, but as i mentioned the car basically runs like it's carb'd when its cold, the swinging of the rpms, the wanting to die. the major lag with the throttle and rev. I will get a pic up tomorrow.

VAF ?????? vane air flow sensor??? if so SD cars did not use such, the main input for load on a SD car is the MAP sensor for load as well as a few other sensors

Yes you are right from a certain point of view

However some Fords do use the VAF DEPENDANT on engine application and the kind of sensors employed for EEC IV systems for use in the SD system. I can photo copy that from my Fords EEC IV we use for college if you like

OP - mjr46 is right on you having a MAP and not a VAF so i apologise fir the misinformation.
