Opinions Needed!
What's up folks. I just have a quick question. I'm away at school and my dad is thinking about letting me buy his Mustang off of him. It's an `87 GT with over 100,000 miles. He said it tripped, but I guess he hasn't kept track if it tripped again. Anyway, he bought it new back in `87 and it used to be his daily driver up until the mid 90s. My question is, if I were to buy this car from my dad, what could I do to freshen up the engine without rebuilding it? I feel that the car still runs strong and has some power, but it's just old. I figure something like replacing the gaskets and just giving it an all around tune-up & flushing the fluids. Any other recommendations as to what I could do to breath a little fresh air into the motor -- if this arrangement actually works out? Thanks for any advice or ideas!

So if I did the gaskets and major tune-up, that'd at least give the motor the ability to be a daily driver again? (aside from w/e basic maintenance issues may arise) As long as I'm not trying to race it everywhere I go.

I really wasn't sure on exactly what gaskets to replace. I just know it's not driven as much as it once was so I was thinking it might have been in order. I know the 5.0s are supposed to be solid motors, I guess I'm just trying to make sure I have every base covered. And I wasn't sure exactly what kind of cost to anticipate.

REAL MAIN SEAL check it
a tune up is about it as long as it was kept in good condition it should be fine i bought my fox from the orig owner who kept great care of it at 150k i sold it at 179k to a buddy who rebuilt it and is racing it somewhere in NY they are stout motors
