Alarm/Starter Problem

Alarm/Starter Problem
Okay, I have an old alarm on my car that was on there when I got the car. I noticed the car will not start anymore because the wire that is connected to the starter is not letting any power to go through it and not starting the car. When I hook up a copper wire from the positive to negative, it starts right up.
What is the best thing to do?
Rip out the alarm? And if I do, how hard is it to trace that wire to take out?
Just a few suggestions would help? I need it back on the road soon.

My opinion is that alarms are more trouble than they are worth. When was the last time you ran to a car that had its siren going off? I, like you, have never run to a car like that. They offer a false sense of security. Now, you are faced with removing a malfunctioning device installed by a previous owner. I would buy a shop manual that has a wiring diagram in the back. Using that, you will be able to see what wires he tapped into and why. It will also make it easy to put back whatever needs to be put back.

they are pretty simple to unhook and most likely the alarm is wired so it'll disable the ignition feed wire to the selonoid out on the fender......all you often have to do is get down and remove paneling to column and pay attention to where the wires were cut and interfaced with the alarm input and outputs and reconnect the wires that were cut and spliced into the alarm, of course after removing the alarm, the wires are color coded so both ends will just need to be located and reconnected, had to do such to my 89, took about an hour
