Default mph speedo question

Ok I recently got a used 140 mph speedo to replace to 85 mph. Is it possible to just use the black cover and put the original backing on the other cover so that I can keep my same mileage count or do have replace the whole thing as in the spinning device and numbers? I would like to keep my original back piece but I am guessing the speed might be off? I am not sure let me know what you got thanks.

imop i would just do the gauge swap. I believe the numbers are in different spots on the clusters therefore it would be off. I just swapped my 140 for a autometer gauge. Not sure if there is a way to roll the new speedo back im sure there is but sounds like alot of trouble considering all you really have to do is take the old one out and put the new speedo in.

I set mine to 0 because my build was from scratch. What I did was just spin the piece on the back of the gauge that the cable connects to.
