Default First Time Poster, Time sensitive question.

Hey all first time poster here, I have a opportunity to pick up a 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 for 1,200.00 Car runs great has plenty or power, drives nice and firm. The only thing is it is smoking blue a little bit. Do you guys think it is worth it to pick it up. Or do you think I should hold off. I need to make a decision tomorrow.

Thank you all for your time

Joel

sounds like worn seals, expect oil consumption.

Yea I kinda figured that and I can deal with adding oil every once and awhile. I'm just curious if you guys think it is a good buy.

Thank you for the quick response

I say buy it... valve stem seals can be replaced without pulling the heads, no biggy.

If everything else seems to be good on the car, don't let a little blue smoke keep you from buying it.

blue smoke is not a problem until you quit seeing it. Then you have problems

Prolly has a headgasket going with blue/white smoke out the back. 1,200 is an amazing deal even if it does has a blown headgasket. Is it an LX/Coupe(trunk) or LX/Hatchback. An LX coupe is the most sought after style and has a much higher value. Also check the chassy around all aspects of the car for rust. Could be rusting through. See if you can get a detailed description of what the dude has done to the car. It allways sucks going through and finding out whats been done to it. $800 to have a mechanic fix that head gasket, or you can DIY for $120 and a full days work. Id jump on that offer in a sec, call me at 518-892-0727 if you want to discuss it furthur, because this deal seems too good to be true

Probably not, blue indicates oil burn, most likely a ring/cylinder wear issue or valve seal issue....heavy white smoke like clouds would indicate head gasket, coupled with coolant loss.
