134??
So I noticed that the weather down here in Texas is getting warmer. A few days out of the week I have been running my AC on high and noticed it is not as cold as it should be. My buddy noticed it and told me to get an "AC Freaon Can" from my local autoparts store and suck it into the vacuum line of the AC.
When I went in I asked one of the sales people to point me to that direction and he asked if my car was 134 or not? I told him that I really did not know. My car is a 93 GT 5.0.

originally your car was r-12, you cannot mix r-12 and 134a, if it still has r-12, you will need to find a shop that has r-12 and have them top it off, or evacuate the r-12 and convert the system to 134a, to tell take a pic of the service fittings and post it.

1. So is this something that all cars have and are changed? I just feel weird that I have never heard of this.
2.If it is R-12 still, I HAVE to take it to someone to top it off or change it out?
3.Also, couldn't the guy at the auto parts store tell me what it was or not?
4. Service fittings? Where would this be? If someone can show me an example, I will post mine.

2. unless you wish to convert it to 134a
3. don't need too, 93 was still an r-12 system in a fox body
4.scroll down and look at the pics of the service fittings and how to identify them:

Last time I checked 30lb bottle of R-12 was $900. That was 10 years a go, chances are you won't find any R-12's out there. You need purchase a retrofit kit to install R-134a system, and it's good idea to leak check the system with 100 psig of dry nitrogen before pulling 30'' vaccum using the vaccum pump. Bottom line is, find your self an HVAC mechanic friend.
