Default considering buying a 5.0

found one in my town...its an 84 with 55,000 original miles. body and interior in excellent shape...was a california car, no rust at all, and always garage kept...seller is starting at 6,000 and i know i can get him down, but im wondering if its worth even considering it? its a carb engine as im sure u all know...only mods it has is an exhaust and 89 rims instead of the stocks...5 speed manual..any thoughts?

it would be daily driven for at least a year then maybe played with after that..im currently racing my 04 GT but i could always switch to the fox if i wanted lol

hmmm

tricky, well first off, its got a flat tappet motor, not a roller. second, that T5 is a non world class. and 6000 is way to high

even with that low of miles, its not worth $6k. if you can knock him down $2000+ go for it. if it has fresh paint or something of that nature then i can see paying a little over $4k but not a whole lot. just my opinion tho

im thinking i can definately get him to take 4k..but how much potential does this motor have? judging by available performance parts it seems like if you get anything less than an 87 youre just **** outta luck, lol...is there also a way to convert the front end do the newer looking foxes, like the headlights? (not that thats a big deal just curious)

alot of the parts will fit an older motor, they say 87+ because they are lazy bastards and dont want to test their parts on older car/carb engines

only thing i see they really have going for them is they are a bit lighter. A shortblock from a newer fox would help the situation a bit but, it is such low miles it would be hard to do it.

and they can be converted

good to know...cuz i was kinda concerned when everywhere i looked it said 87+, i was like, how the hell do people mod an 84, lol....

and please dont kick me in the *****, lol, the front of the 84 is growing on me but i just like the dront bumpers on the newer ones, the headlights arent really wats bothering me, lol...but once again not a big deal anyway...

one more MINOR detail...the guy said it sat in a garage for 17 YEARS UNTOUCHED! then he bought it and had carb work done to get it running properly...he said now u can turn the key and go with no issues at all...just adding to the history..he also said that the a.c could use a recharge, he said it still works just not extremely cold, he advised toward an a.c swap before having it charged but im a windows down kinda guy so im not too worried about it lol

not sure what the difference between a flat tappet and roller motor is...and idk what a t5 is, lol...sorry for not knowing these terms =/

i agree 6000 is way too high but im not sure what a fair price would be...i was prolly going to shoot for 4k, that seems like itd be good right?

if you do buy it I would look at finding/converting to the '85 GT setup
