Default silicone on a t-stat housing?

Is it recommended to put a silicone bead on a t-stat housing? Mine seems to leak since the install.

Thanks

ive seen people only use rtv

a little adhesive helps to hold it on, but no, you don't need anything but the gasket

Check closely to see if old gasket material or corrosion is on intake or thermostat housing. Most important is to make sure thermostat did not slip out of place during installation. Put thermostat in place then use some 3M wheatherstrip adhesive to hold gasket in place. Noe thermostat can not get out of place.Use 3M very sparingly as it is a tough one to get offanything, including yourself. Carb cleaner works.

I've used orange RTV on mine. thin layer on the housing, put the gasket on, then another thin layer on the intake side. I did this because my FRPP chrome thermostat housing pitted horribly and won't seal with just a gasket.

I always use a layer of permatex's "the right stuff" why?? cause almost every used t-stat housing out there does not have a true surface anymore and has imperfections in the surface due to years of electrolosis and or corrosion pitting the surface

Cool, I do think it will help, as the t-stat housing is a bit chewed up. I appreciate all the input.

I went through two gaskets and one t-stat housing on mine. I got some Honda Ultra flange from work and used that. So far it hasnt leaked.

Where is it leaking? What housing do you have? Some aftermarket - including the chrome Ford housing - have a threaded hole for the bypass nipple. That's really hard to get sealed correctly.

About 5 years ago I assembled mine with JB Weld and a pipe wrench. It has never leaked.

As for the gasket surface, I use a gasket if I have one. Otherwise I just use some silicone. The O-ring got tossed when I bought it.
