Default Which Cam? Again!

I usually do not like to ask such dumb and vague questions. However, I've been reading various information over the last couple of days and I could really use some insight as to which cam would suit my car's needs. A little background info: It is a 95 with GT-40 heads, Cobra Intake, stock rockers and stock cam + all the supporting bolt-ons. I tore the motor out a couple weeks ago for another rebuild. I planned on reusing the stock cam because of it's nice torque down low. But the cam is worn in a few places. So the cam is a no go.
I figured I MIGHT throw in a performance cam since I have the motor apart. However, I am looking for one that provides some decent low end torque. My TFS-1 in my other car would have worked well if I had some 3.73's or 4.10's. But I am USING the 3.08's . And the TFS-1 cam is great, but is lazy below 2500rpm. There are a couple of cams that have come to mind as possibilities, primarily the Crane 2030 and the CompXE270HR(which Comp recommended). A letter cam is out of the question. So if anyone has any suggestions or experiences with the mentioned cams that would be great. Thanks!

I was looking at one of the 270 cams myself but, have decided to go with a steeda #19 just because i am cheap I guess. It looked like a pretty hot little cam.

Is this the same motor you had built a few months ago?

Yeah Tim, it's the same motor. It's a long story, but basically after the motor's 500mile break in I changed the oil, and the oil filter blew out while I was driving. Car was run without oil for 30 seconds tops. But ever since then, there seems to be an imbalance at idle. The motor likes to shake a bit. Plus it developed a tick a few months back. I replaced my entire valve train to no avail. So I figured it was time to rebuild it AGAIN. Live and learn like they say. I thought about the Steeda, but it doesn't start cooking till about 2500-2800 as well. I know it would work well with my computer, but with 3.08's and a no torque, I do not think it would work well. But maybe Onyx will chime in later.

Probably wouldn't with your set-up. I still have the kenne bell though. The #18 may be better but, I would still go a different route than that.

That sucks with the ticking noise. I would guess the tick is a piston pin.idk Glad to see it is getting worked out though.

That's right, I forgot you have the blower. So yeah, it will work great with your ride and probably my Vortech GT as well. Hopefully I get the car running in the next couple of weeks. Just have to pick the motor up this week.

It was one of the xe270hr cams. What talked me out of it was them wanting their springs used with it. It was looking like it was going to cost some jack. The trickflow spring kit can be had for 125 to the door. Which they may work with the cam but, it wasn't looking like it. Figure 500 bucks in valvetrain is all I wanted to invest in a junkyard motor.

CCA-35-349-8, CCA-35-514-8,CCA-35-420-8 i dont remember what lift the gt40 heads max out there flow but its between .500 and .550, so something in that range!

just a thought! those shouldnt effect idling with the stock converter, and would work well with a 308 gear based on duration!

Thanks for your help guys. Over the last 24 hours I have been doing some thinking and a lot of reading. I've decided to scrap my GT-40's and get some aluminum's. I already have Trickflow heads on my other car and I think I'll spring for the new Edelbrock E-series heads. While there are better heads out there, these heads are pretty cheap. Plus they have two rebates and a free T-Shirt :P . This may or may not change my cam selection, but at least I'll have the added lift of improved valve springs over the GT-40's.
