Thanks for the info everyone.
I assume that the carpets are supposed to go because of the fire risk when you weld on the other side of them? Or is there another reason?

Yep it's the fire.. I was with the guy the whole time and I never saw any issues..

When I welded mine on I though about it but then looked where I was welding and realized if I didnt go crazy with the welder Id be okay. For the most part (especially with the MM ones) you are welding to the frame rail not the pan. The rails are not close to the carpet. The carpet would experience indirect heat. Just be careful if you leave it in and dont set the welder too hot.

If I were to tell you that I was a little nervous when the guy was welding my SF's on would be an understatement. I was scard as hell and right beside me I had a fire exstinguisher... but after watching the guy start to weld I really didn't see anything that would cause or be a problem..

max motorsports makes a set that fit the convertibles... i have them on my car. just some additional metal work is required on the factory reinforcement plates.. so your gonna prolly get charged a few more bucks
