Default Broken ignition switch?

Came out of work, I started my car, it started, then shut off as soon as I released the key. Did it a second time, same thing. On the third try, I turned the key and it spun around toward the dash without catching at all. The column still locks but the key spins freely after I unlock the column. I left the car in the parking lot and will work on it in the morning God willing. This is a new problem to me, Does anyone know what may have happened?

I had the same thing happen to me last year. The car would intermittently turn off if I bumped the keys while driving. One day it just didn't work. I pulled the column apart and the little metal tabs that hold the ignition module together were bent and the thing was in two pieces.

IT happened to me as I hit a dip in the highway at 65 MPH. I was in the center lane with heavy traffic. Talk about oh $hit! Luckly I had a roll of duct tape in the hatch. I broke the plastic pieces off of the column. Put the to pieces back together taped around the column and was able to get it back home. Every time I turned left it started to die. Went to Napa and got a new switch and went to the boneyard got the plastic pieces for the coumn and it's fixed.

Good luck on your fix....
