Rear Disc Conversion...

Rear Disc Conversion...
I should be getting a 7.5 (yea yea) complete new edge rear end this weekend from a buddy because he broke something in it and is just going to replace the whole thing cheap. It also already has a trac loc and 4.10's in it. Also for helping I am going to be getting some 3.73's for a 7.5 too. The rear isn't completely shot from the way he is describing his problem. Its fine going straight but makes some popping noises when turning. I haven't heard or seen it yet but I have talked to him about it.
Anyway I was thinking of replacing the stock geared and drummed 8.8 with the disc and geared setup that I can most likely fix pretty cheap. Then put the 3.73's in my 98 so I have gears in both cars lol. I am kinda hoping the 3.73's are actually for an 8.8 but we will see (he doesn't know much yet and just got them from someone else).
Questions though
Would I get the ebrake cables from the SN's?
Would the Cobra MC and booster be better than the SN's? I can get the SN stuff cheap from the junk yard so I know it will be cheaper than a $80 cobra booster.
Ideas!

the 8.8 disc upgrade is def not bad especially for a guy like you who is not afraid of the junkyard. i did it i used all sn95 parts the ebrake has to be modified, as far as i know you cannot use the sn95 ebrake u use urs and have to buy 3 cables and do a few simple mods to the handle. there is 2 great websites for this conversion and your diff junkyard options. give me a few i will look it up. hope this helps mike

the second one is the source i used when i did mine, since then he has limited a small part of the details and charges for the rest. whatever u can't get from him for free you should be able to get from the first website. feel free to ask me questions i will try and help as much as i can. mike

Cool, thanks for the sites. I will read them later. I have read alot of 5 lug conversions but I usually skip over the rear disc part since I had no intentions of swapping bc of the parts.
Also would I be able to just remove (unbolt and or cut) the brackets from the extra rear end I will end up with and just relocate (weld) the brackets to my 8.8? I would believe so. BUT that still leaves me with no gears lol.

Well the rear I was supposed to get a whole rear end so yes you would have the same questions. I was just thinking of the different ways of using the 7.5 rear to my advantage. If I do still get it though I might just go ahead and put it under the 98 and then possibly pull the brake stuff off the stock 98 rear.
