Default breaking in new engine

so got my car all back togeather and its running well. their are maybe like 5-10 miles on the new engine, my question is that it seems like every time i drive it it gets smoother and seem to run better. is this to be expected? i have never had a brand new engine so was just wanting to get so input on things to expect- thanks-

its expected. the rings are seating giving you better compression in the motor. to seat them correctly tho you need to beat the hell out of the motor for the first 25miles or so. if your car is stick, get the car rolling to about the mph when you would shift into second but dont, shift into 3rd from 1st and then floor it. the load on the motor will create high cylinder pressure and seat the rings. a couple of shots like that should seat the rings almost completely

if i go from first to third wont the bog a little? but i am guessing the end goal of that is to make the engine work to get up to speed? and should i do the first oil change at 500 or 1000?

Yup, load 'er up. You need the high cylinder pressures behind the rings to force them into the cross hatch on the walls and wear together.

do it after 500, change the oil filter and cut open the oil filter with an oil filter cutter. if it doesnt look like a prospectors gold pan then your good to go. (any shimmery flakes would be your bearing material...)

hp and gearing will determine how bad it bogs but if it does bog really bad, just go higher in the rpms in 1st before shifting to 3rd
