Default TPS help

My car has been jerking pretty bad at certain throttle positions so I decided to check the sensor. I found a write up on it and followed it the best I could. I hooked a voltmeter from my neg battery terminal then to the positive to the signal voltage wire. As I opened up the throttle it climbed from 1V to 5V but at one spot it would go to zero. Is the sensor bad? Thanks

yes that would indicate a bad sensor. the tps is a potentiometer so inside it there is a needle that swings over some contacts and where it goes to zero could be where the throttle is the most; around cruising speed, so it probably wore out there.

but i don't know that a bad tps sensor would make the car jerk at certain throttle positions.
