Is there a transmission section dedicated to just tranny related stuff or is that just stupid?I have to many quistions on trannys(stall, tire size, gear etc..)what do you think? Direct me.
I have a c4,dont know the year.Fairbanks 3200 stall, reverse valvebody.Just would like to know the specs, how much abuse they can handle.
well that depends what else has been done. What internals are in it? did it have red clutches and good bands put in it? what servo are you running in the thing for the front band. what planetary are you running in it this is one of the weak spots in a C4. is it rollerized or still running the standard thrust bearing? There is lots of things that can be done to make them handle Big HP. 1000 seems to be the cut off and they dont last forever at that HP even with the best parts. 500 to 600 HP is not real hard for them to take with even mild build but it is not how much they will take but how long they will last. I run with a guy that has a real 1000 HP turbo mustang with a c4 he goes through 2 or 3 a year depending on how much he runs it and that is with the best of parts in it. But a turbo car make SICK torque. best thing I can tell you is keep it cool and run a deep pan get as much fluid in it as you can that is another draw back with them they dont hold much fluid.
There are also some tricks you can do while building them to get fluid in other places of the trans that normally don't see much fluid pressure.
correct, unlike others I wont tell everything it takes to make them live at high HP. I had to work for it and I believe so should others.. I know A$$HOLE!!! LOL.. But at the same time I build a few for the local racers and if they new everything I could not make a $$. Hell I am still learning with everyone I build and then rebuild.
Doing well though I have one in a 9.20 car that is still street driven and it is holding up so far.
^^ I know exactly what you mean. I plan on building a few once I get back to indiana next year and going from there. I have done alot of research on them and rebuilding them is a breeze.
