Default timming!

ok i got a 86 gt, i was wondering what the timing for the most power i can get. i have a stock 302 5.0. i got a cold air intake, 3.73 gears. any info will help and i dont know what my timing is though

i was trying to adjust my timing today... i am borrowing my buddy's timing light and i know how to do it... discount the spout plug, loosen the distributor bolt a tad jsut so it can move, and then start the car and move the distributor clockwise to make the degrees larger or counterclockwise for less degrees. but when i went to look for the numbers on my crank there were none. i took a wire brush to it cause of all the rust and cleaned it up yet nothing... but 3 hashmarks

Just make sure you have the rule cleaned up well. I took a piece of 80grit paper and had to sand the crap out of mine till I could see all the numbers.
I have timing on my 86 hatch set at 16 deg. right now. Maybe in the summer Ill get some pinging but until the weather gets hotter Im not worried about it.

what i do is jack the car up so i can get to the balancer easily and i clean the balancer real well and i mark it with a sharpie to where id like to set it at.

I have 14 degrees on my 5.0 but I'm running 95 octane fuel so you might want to go lower.

95 octane is too high for your car. use a lower octane and your performance will improve

Eur 95 = 91 US and Eur 98 = US 93. It's weird, but the octane numbers don't match between countries.

I fill mine with Eur 95 as well, we don't have lower octane fuel here.

thanks guys also im gunna take it to the track this summer just to see wat it will do and i was wondering if here is any basic stuff i can do to keep it from blowin up besides new clean oil
