Default Help request - identifying part I need

Hey guys, wish I could find the answer to this myself, but have been unable to so far, my noobery is weakening my google-fu. My '93 is an SSP and was converted over to manual sometime in its life. My clutch adjustments won't hold, the nut seems to back itself off and it goes out of adjustment pretty quick. the clutch cable ends with just a threaded piece of metal, there's nothing there to lock it down with. I'm a little worried that the clutch cable may even end up slipping out of the part of the fork it sits in, too. It looks like it needs a ball or dome-shaped piece on the back side of the fork to secure it. I've looked all over Late Model Resto's site, but haven't been able to find anything that looks like it would do the trick, other than maybe a new clutch cable. Anybody have any suggestions? My transmission may be an older model as well.

Much appreciated
Dirty Joe

Ditch the adjustable cable and get a stock replacement and put a billet quadrant and firewall adjuster on it and you wont have that problem anymore.

he won't have that prob anymore if he had the proper hardware on it to keep the adjustment, have 2 such cables on my 2 rides and never had such an issue with proper hardware on them

Well I had an adjustable cable on my old 86 and it stretched enough over about 75 miles that all adjustment was gone. Aftermarket adjustable cables are junk. Sure, they may be a few out there that last but I bet there is a lot more out there that don't. I wont use one again. Plus why would you want to crawl under you're car everytime you want to adjust you're clutch when you could just pop the Hood. But whatever, to each there own. Factory modified cable, firewall adjuster, and billet quad ftw. Just my $.02.

Well the fact is my steeda adjustable cable didn't last 75 miles. Was a complete piece of junk. I contacted steeda and they offered to send me a new one for free but i told them to keep it. Ill only buy a ford non adjustable from now on. But like I said, to each there own.

That's all fine, where the solution to your problem may have required such, in no way is it a reasonable solution to the OP'S prob, Go back and read what he said, in fact I'll help you.........The OP SAID:

See the prob I have with your recommendation is, that it's ludicrous......why recommend he go spend 100+ dollars for a bunch of new junk when all he needs is a 3.00 dollar beveled castle nut and a jam nut so the current nut won't keep backing off, he doesn't have the issue you had or at least he hasn't mentioned such yet, so look at his problem from his perspective, not yours.........that's like trying to sell a guy who comes into my shop a new tire cause he has a pin hole leak in the tread when all he needs is a simple plug........Simple fact is , it's easy to throw out expensive recommendations on the "net" when it's not your money you're spending......and that's all I'm saying....while your solution will work, it is not the most cost effective nor practical , unless of course he doesn't mind spending that much

Default Thanks

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. Sorry it took so long, but I've been traveling for work and things have been pretty crazy, and with the snow, I haven't been too motivated to get the stang up and going. I'm just looking to get it driveable for more than a day without clutch adjustment now, may end up doing the full replacement later. Is the castle nut and jam nut something that an average auto parts store would know what I needed, provided I had the size/thread for them to match?

Thanks,
Joe
