Default Bought the 88 LX 5.0!! Few issues however

Okay first things first. Bought the car, looks beautiful and ran amazing. All up until I was half way home with it. The amps meter started dropping and quick! Soon every time I would give the car gas, it would cut out really bad. Eventually all the car wanted to do was idle, any throttle given and it would completely kill the battery. I jumped the car twice and same thing happened in minutes. But upon first seeing the car. It ran for about 10 minutes idling, and the guy even drove me around the block in it, another 5 minutes let's say. Many people say it's the alternator! ALSO!! The dash lights do not light up, none of the turn signals work, and the parking lights do not come on. None of them! All I have are headlights, and brake lights when I hit the pedal. What's the deal here? Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Damn that sux, sounds like the alternator. Take it off and have the parts store test it. Hope you get it fixed.

Here's a picture of it btw. Only paid $2300 for it. But will definitely pull the ALT in the morning and have the local parts store test it. Hope that's it!

Will do! And it WAS the alternator like you guys said. Took it in and they tested it, all tests FAILED. Bought a new one, about to go put it on now

Good luck! I hope the new alternator does the trick for you. Good attitude you have. I just bout a '90 LX Saturday and drove it 2 1/2 hours home. If it had died on me halfway home I don't think my attitude would be as positive as yours is.

Hey thanks! I'm just super excited that I finally got one. Good things come to those who wait. I couldn't be mad at anyone. When I went to go see the car it ran perfectly fine. But some friends came out to jump me, then a tow truck ended up taking me home. Alternator and new belt did the trick. It's holding at about 2 lines above the 8 mark, so I still think there is something up.

Now time to figure out why none of the interior lights, and parking/turn signals work? Anybody have any ideas?
