Default supercharged 331 on a stock block?

hey everyone, ive been reading up lately (just for future reference) on 331 and 347 stroker kits... to my understanding you can use a stock 302 block for a 331 stroker kit with a, for example, vortech supercharger running about 6psi, but if i wanted a 347 stroker with a supercharger a stock block is out of the question?... if i were to ever consider doing this i would probably be looking for around 500 rwhp

Notch bottom of cylinder sleeves for rod to clear with longer stroke for 347. Use a 302 block.

so the stock block can handle that much power? what i seem to have been finding is that you shouldnt use a stock block with a supercharged 347? So it actually is oK?

^^^a well chosen combo for a 347 + 6 lbs of boost on a stock block would survive for a time if the tune is spot on but it's a crap shot

Yeah, I wouldn't trust a stock block for long at 500rwhp. And you'd only get 1 chance to get the tune right.

This topic freaks me out because I was considering forced induction and my block is stock. I do have a Main stud girdle though, would that help prevent the block from cracking at all?

It's really a toss up. My motor was making over 650 at the crank for a good 2 yeas n about 550 for another 2 n never failed. I just sold it recently its more about a good tune and luck. To the op you can make 500 hp with a standard 302 just gonna take a bit more boost

So what would be your advice(and everyone else's) as far as how much boost to run? I'm making 9.3:1 compression. (Dish pistons and 61cc cyl heads). I'm not gonna FI it anytime soon, don't have any $$$ saved up yet. Also havn't decided on turbo or S/C yet. But I think this may Help answer the O/P's question as well as mine.
