Unless u have an 86 model engine most aluminum heads with 2.02's will clear. If you have any vlvreliefs you should be OK with a modest cam.

trust me I went with ported GT40's and I was happy for about a month. Then I ended up building a diff motor. Do it right once and be done with it. You gotta think gaskets and etc. add up quick.

That's true but most aluminum heads are capable of much more than a modest cam. My goal is to get the most out of the heads I will be using. I don't want to pay a grand or more for heads and not be able to get their max potential.

I was also wondering if 2.02 would be rather large for a 302. It seems like it would be better suited for a stroker since it would require more airflow. The smaller 1.9/1.94 would be the only other choice for a 302 but again your limited in choices and even these valves are too large for the valve reliefs if your running a higher lift cam.

the valve reliefs on stock pistons will not clear 2.02" valves. You can run more lift/duration with a 1.9" valved head, than a 2.02" valved head

The reliefs are only large enough for the 1.85 valves, right? What is the maximum lift/duration with the stock size valves?

Count up what it would cost to go either way with the gt40ps or whatever and see what it will cost you and if it is worth it to you.

My p heads make 390hp and 486tq at the wheels with 6 pounds of boost. At this point I feel an upgrade would be useless since it is just a street car.
