yeah, it would help some. I am not really the one to help though since my setup is supercharged. It did pick up a considerable amount of power with 6lbs of boost. If I had to guess, I would say about 70-80 hp. All I changed was the heads, lower intake, rockers, maf, throttle body, and the enitre exhaust system.

I hate to sound like a party pooper. But personally, just save your money until you have enough to purchase a nice combo. I ran the GT-40 set-up....hated it! I did it in a day and for $600 for the cobra intake and heads it was a decent deal. But the power was not that great. Upgraded to some aluminum heads and a comp cam a few months later. That combined with a tune netted me 50+rwhp/22rwtrq more than the GT-40 set-up. Just save your $$ a little longer. You'll be much happier.

i will disagree with most and say yes it is.

i have seen my buddy go 11.80's on a bone stock '92 GT

it had a box stock gt40 intake (yes gt40... cobra is NOT gt40... it is a gt40 based...and explorer lowers are NOT really gt40 lowers.. they are gt40 SHAPED lowers)

anyways... box stock intake, iron cobra heads with a total of $300 in port work... cleaned up exhaust ports, touched on the intake ports and a good valve job

with 4.10 gears and a 125 dry shot he ran 11.80's all day long.
after swapping to a c4 with a big converter he dropped to 11.60's
swapped to aluminum heads (windsor jrs) and still ran 11.60's

here is why people run like crap on "gt40" stuff and claim gt40 stuff to be crap

1) they use explorer lowers and think they are gt40 lowers

an explorer lower part number ends in a -BA and measures out at .96" X 1.65"

a real gt40 lower or cobra lower ends in -AA and measures out at 1.00" X 1.80"

here they are... dont know if it will explode or show thumbnail only

and then the heads... i dont care what you say about "p" heads and the better combustion.... they have smaller ports and smaller valves and reduce airflow AND air velocity

cobra heads are better than e7 heads but remember they are just DOOE 351 heads from 1969/1970

and with that being said... for performance they need a little bit of help

all in all... imo ?

$300 for heads+ $300 for port work on the heads, +$500 for a real GT40 intake (sexiest intake ever made fyi) plus matching the lower to the heads $100

$1200 total...thats the cost of the aluminum heads alone new, and you will now have the ability to make about 300 real HP

yes... do the same port work to some good aluminum heads and YES.. absolutely you'll make some more power. and you'll dissipate heat better.

but this IS a budget build we're talking right ?

my first budget power upgrade was a professional products intake, 1.7 rockers, shorty equal length headers, TB & MAF. stock heads & cam.
when i got ready for heads and a cam we base lined it on a cyno and it wqs making 252 rwhp. not too bad for a few bucks and a little sweat.
