Default Can someone tell me if this is worth it? (not tech)!!

My friends aunt is selling her 88 (i think. correct me if im wrong) 5.0 GT with 65,000 bone stock. It clearly has symptoms that it has been sitting for a while. i posted pics of the engine for some knowledgeable members to give their opinions. its up for 4500.

Crappy Repaint? Primer?

Yeouch!

There is loads of rust on that badboy. Have you looked at the coolant or oil? Does it even turn over...?

My biggest fear would be dry-rot of the seals and such, AC Seals, Tranny Seals, engines seals, PS seals..that's a lot of cash to dump to change all of the seals. Brake fluid corrosion inside the lines from water getting in their (it is oviously black)...too many things to consider for $4,800.00.

Plus even if it does run. One of the lifters could collapse from sludge.....

I would consider this a project car.

I have not looked at it yet and dont even know if the thing turns over! haha. I was shaky on it when my friend sent me the pics. My a4 hit 180k and maintenance is going to get crazy expensive. I heard the HO engines are a bulletproff proven design so i checked some out. Looks like this one is too far gone. Its a shame.

For the right price I'd buy it and put some money into it but otherwise your likely to put more in it than its worth.

i actually think it's in ok shape...but maybe im old and my eyes arent what they used to be.

3 things i notice right away tho....obviously used to be red ??? check the paint code in the door and match it up. "ext color"

i doubt it's an '88 unless they took it from cali to new jersey...only cali cars were mass air in '88

i dont like how they cutout for the exhaust , gt's dumped down to avoid cutting out the rear fascia
