Question My rack and pinion seals are leaking

What all is involved in changing the seals on the rack and pinion. Power steering fluid is just pouring out of there, and someone told me there were special tools required for changing the seals. Any truth to this? Anyone ever done it? My dad read somewhere that for 94-95 mustangs, to put atf in, instead of power steering fluid because it ruins the seals. I thought this was really odd and really unlikely, but i thought i would throw it out there to see if anyone has done this or heard of it. Thanks for the help!

the P/S uses ATF. And you should just replace the whole rack.

So i actually pour atf in the power steering reservoir? Should I put in a certain kind? I will be replacing the whole rack. Is there much benefit to an after market one? Any where online I can get a good deal or should I just go to autozone?

Does it in fact destroy the seals? What if power steering fluid is put in instead of the type f? How would you go about changing the fluid?

jack the front of the car up
remove one of the power steering cooler hose lines
place drain pan under lines
remove serpentine belt
spin P/S pump by hand to evacuate system
turn steering wheel back and fourth to empty the rack
reconnect the hose and fill with ATF
cycle fluid through by manually spinning the pump and working the steering wheel
drain fluid again
re-fill and manually work air out of system
top off fluid
reinstall belt
put car back on ground, start engine and work wheel side to side
top off reservoir
