Default Hatch Leak

Fox Body hatch, gets very wet in the hatch area, debris seems to have piled up under the bottom of the hatch window trim. I am assuming the seal has gone bad.

Is this an easy DIY fix, or should I just go to a glass shop. Cost expectations?

Assuming that's your issue, the hatch seal itself is very easy to replace. You'll see a slit where both ends of the seal meat at the bottom, just pull it up, then you slip on the new seal. The most you may need to do is a little trimming and make sure you know how the seal goes back on because you can get it backwards. Its not a huge deal but you want the best seal possible

Is your hatch solid when you close it or can you slightly lift it up & down after it latches? The sleeve around the striker bolt/stud is a common cause of this (if this might be contributing to your issue with not sealing up). You can either replace the bolt/stud or do a cheap fix with something like cutting off the handle of a milk jug to wrap around it.

I replaced my hatch seal. Took about 10 minutes max. I also replaced the striker bolt shown above. The latch itself is not available, last I checked.

Thanks for the replies. The weatherstripping is new, but I think there is slight movement if I go to pull it up and down when closed.

I've come across a starting issue that has now taken precendence...grrrr

Hey everyone.....He is not talking about the weatherstripping! He is talking about the seal between the glass and the hatch...

OP I know what you are talking about....the hatch on my 83 leaks there also. Take it to a glass shop or body shop and let them do it. That way if they screw it up or break it they can replace it.
