header collector flange(2 bolt) stripped!
thats right, bought some headers in good condition used from some one ..bolted the drivers side on first, it fit nicely. Went to unbolt the stock header on the passenger side to put the "new" one on. I saw that the the threads on the 2bolt collector flange ring that the studs go into on the header are stripped really bad. So the studs wont go in, therefore i cant bolt up my xpipe. any suggestions?
i went to an auto parts store to rent out a thread restorer set..didnt really help. should i take it to a machine shop to have it re-threaded "professionally" or buy a new 2 bolt flange collector ring and have it welded?
thanks for looking.

^^ last resort is having it welded on

When I put a tubular manifold on my truck I had an issue with one of the bolts. What I did was auger out the hole and used a bolt/nut combo, it hasn't gave me any issues. That's if you're willing to go that route though

one bolt would go completely sideways

is it even worth going through the trouble??
the flange ring piece is $30+, plus shipping ..the welding/labor is another $100+
shoot i might as well get a new set lol, or if i could get just 1 header i would

Just drill the header flange holes out with a drill bit that has the same diameter as the original studs. Then use studs with the same diameter as the drill bit and spot weld the studs so they can't spin when installing or removing the exhaust.

I didn't read most of the posts but what adder and mjr said works just fine. Just a slight PITA to tighten it up...
OR
You can take 5 mins and stick a bolt in the hole and weld the bolt to the flange.....

thanks for the tips fellas, finished at 4am..i used a grade 8 bolt and nut combo..s.o.b was hard to align to the xpipe flange. anyways, i think bbk gave me some crappy header gaskets because the exhaust system definitely doesnt sound right, esp coming off the block. choppy air sounds/ sputters, sounds like a waste gate or something. something in there isnt connected right, im thinking its the collector flanges
