Are you getting this engine for free? If not why not use a 5.0 liter based motor? This engine will need the wiring harness, new mounts, and most likely alot of fitment issues being that the motor was designed for a truck and will be taller and wider than what your replacing. Good luck with your project.

no i wouldnt be getting it for free. i heard on here and some other things that the swap is pretty easy and painless with not a lot of fitment issues. But i might be wrong. So you recommend just building a better 5.0. Or just using the block and getting it bored and maybe doing a stroker kit or something?

Yea I love the 5.0. Good motor with a ton of potential and the biggest aftermarket in the world. You can get a brand new short block for around $700. And depending on your budget you can load that block up with new performance heads, intake, exhaust, etc and still only have about $2500 invested. Or you can go the super cheap route and get a boneyard motor and craiglist used perfromance parts and still make respectable power. I'm not aware of any weak 5.0 blocks so it should be very easy to find something

yea, i found a complete engine, car was in a wreck. going to look at it tomorrow. probably pick it up and start the build process. yea the availability and affordability of aftermarket parts for these cars is why i love them and many other things.

Any $700 5.0 short block would be built with real junk for parts.
Good ones are about 4 times that much...........

My father always said you get what you pay for. I wouldn't try a 200 shot or 10 pounds of boost on a $700 short block but i wouldn't be affraid to try a few bolt-ons.

Which one are you looking at? The 5.4 is a modular motor and the 5.8 is still a pushrod. Both can fit into a stang with little issues. Except for hood clearance with the 5.4...A 5.8 you can still fit under a stock hood.

The 5.8 just takes the swap pan kit, a couple of new brackets, a spacer for your crank pulley and a new set of headers.

The 5.4 takes a new k member, transmission, trans crossmember relocation, the wiring harness and computer out of the donor vehicle (which you need a mustang setup)...along with all the engine bay accessories to make it work.

The new $700 shortblock...such as the one late model restoration has....has the hyper pistons in it so yea...very little nitrous and boost can be used on them but they make for great budget rebuilds to keep people going.

As for a junk yard shortblock...so long as you find the right one I would have no problem throwing nitrous or boost on it....
