Default Fuel sensor mess

Apparently the previous owner of my 88 GT was too lazy to drop the pan to service/change the fuel sensor. Cut up the floor of the trunk to get to it. Anyone ever see something like this? It's almost laughable.

Thankfully my roommate is an experienced welder. We were also contemplating bolting some sort of plate over them so they can be serviced from the top instead of the bottom from now on. I'd hate to go that route but the damage has been done. Might as well run with it? Any input would be welcomed

Just hope he hasn't hacked up anything else that might surprise you.

I've inspected the car fully, inside and out. That's the only travesty I had found. I thought it was forum post-worthy.
