Default 4.10 or 3.73 gears

im not sure whether i have 4 10's or 3 73's in my 90 foxbody. I bought the car with specs saying they were 4 10's they seem pretty short to me, i can be at a little over 2,000 rpm in 5th gear doing 60mph on the highway. friends and other people insist id be at almsot 4,000 rpm if i had 4 10's

I have 2.73's and at 65 in at about 2,000...I wouldn't think you had 4.10's. jack up the rear...turn the back wheel one full rotation and count how many times the driveshaft turns

Yea I have 3.73 also and run closer to the 2300 rpm mark at 60. I think 4.10 would put you somewhere closer to the 3000 rpm mark at 60 depending on your tire diameter .

Well there are more varitants to final drive rpm other than the gears!

remove the cover and count the teeth, the jacking wheel turning bull**** never works!

what if you had a 4.56 and a 33in tall tire and jacked and turned and you thought you had a 3.55 lol!??

If you thought that, you either need glasses or can't count. The hub is always going to spin the gear ratio. Unless you have some magic wheels, the outermost point on your tire, regardless of size, is not going to make any more revolutions than your lug nuts. Its the old record player trick... The inside spins just as much as the outside.

Lol you're cute. He asked for 3.73 vs 4.11

A jack and turn SHOULD do the trick.

And you referenced 4.56 and 3.55. I stand by what I said, that if you can't tell the dif there, you need glasses. Or you're from Alabama and your exclamation point key is stuck on. Eh.

4 get about what gears you might have and go buy some 3.73 (5spd) or 4.10 (AOD). Thats the best advice on here!

I doubt you have after market gears if your rpm's are 2k at 60mph!
