Exclamation "Rough" Shifting

I was driving from work the other night, same as always. Except that day on my way to work I was getting on the gas HARD. I was driving the car like I stole it. I had just finished installing a new 70mm throttle body, CAI, and pulleys. Anyway... I stopped at my first red light and when I went to throw it in first gear, it was VERY rough. So rough I almost let off the clutch before the gear engaged and stalled since im used to just throwing it into first fairly quickly like every one else.

There was no grinding, or any noise, so nothing seemed to be rubbing together. Just VERY tough to put in first. The other gears are fine, its just first gear. On my way home I fingered the problem a bit more. And when I put in first, and put it in gear slowly, it goes in first nice and easy. But when I try to put in first somewhat fast or quickly it again VERY rough and almost hard.

The car still runs fine, even in first gear perfectly fine. And like said before there is no grinding or any noise. Just first gear is very rough. Also since this happened the steering has become a little stiffer?? idk if its just my head but the power steering felt alot stiffer( no theres no leaks, and its FULL of fluid).

HELP PLEASE?!

Hey bud,

I'm no expert but it sounds like your shift linkage may have gotten out of adjustment as you were "banging" her through the gears. I'd have Ford take a look at it for you. I'd say it was a bad synchro if it was happening between upshifts but doesn't sound like it.

If there's one gear you need to be a little easier on it,s 1st, there's no synchronizer for 1st gear. There's no linkage on your shifter either, 1st gear's probably missing some teeth would be my guess.

sounds like the clutch cable stretched to me.. if u were beating on it and shifting fast you were probably slamming the clutch to the floor faster than normal and may have stretched it a bit.. thats all it sounds like to me.. does it have an adjustable cable in it? they can be adjusted in the firewall or under the car depending on what type of cable is it
