i have a 86 gt convertible and both vin numbers on the dash and the drivers door match and it says its a hatchback when it is a convertible. i dont know if someone changed the back end to a convertible, i doubt it. does anyone know if ford put hatchback vin numbers on convertibles during production. thanks

 

See if you can find any other VINs on the car. Should be on the bumpers, hood, fenders, quarter panels and deck lid. You should also have the last 6 or 8 (cant remember which) on the inner fender aprons (under fenders) and on the rear of the engine block at the top just behind the intake. Granted all those car be changed also. If you have different VINs Id be worried about the car. If not you are probably ok. Still strange you would be decoding it as that. Check multiple VIN decode websites too.

 

iirc the dash vin plate on my fox was bolted to the actual dash and not the body..im thinking someone might have swapped out the dash. either that or they clipped the car and used a vert to put it back together...
