Default Ignition switch won't turn to start

It turns forward to run and backwards to ACC and I still need to press the release button to get the key out, but it won't turn to crank the engine. I can turn the steering wheel, which had not been turned such that the lock would've been engaged.
Thoughts, ideas? Need to drive to work tomorrow AM... Thx

Removed the 2-piece plastic trim around the steering wheel planning to pull the lock cylinder, and now the key works like normal.
This worries me - sounds like a recipe for getting stranded...

might have had a screw jammed in the slide or something. there is a slide (should be covered) that is behind the electrical part of the switch that is known to stick and cause issues.

Thx Boss. Doesn't sound like replacing the lock cylinder will fix that issue - hopefully I'm wrong, b/c I just bought one today...
It's still binding up sometimes (I still have the trim pieces off). It kinda feels like it's steering-wheel-lock related.
What's the proper way to fix this?
Thx again.

This is the piece I was walking about. The covers might be jamming something up where this wont slide. Hard to say without seeing it personally. If you change this grease it really well.
