Default Buying a new GT - What should I get?

Hello Everyone,

I will most likely be in the market for a new car in the very near future, and not under the best circumstances. The short story is some idiot kid in a 911 ran a red light hit two cars and then hit me head on causing me to fly back about 5 - 10 feet into the car behind me. The good news is that everyone walked away from the accident. The bad news is that my 2014 GT will most likely be totaled.

I normally avoid buying first year cars, but the price differential between a new '15-'16 and a used '14 are not that large.

I will be autocrossing the car and want to find a car with as many options as possible to serve that purpose. What options do you like?

Are there any bugs or issues that I need to be aware? This is a new model after all.

Thanks,

Robert

Sorry about the accident. Glad you are alright.

The 2016 models are out now so you don't have to worry about getting a first year model. The new California Specials look really nice if you want something different then what everyone else has.

I went from a 2013 GT to a 2016 GT, huge upgrade IMO. Definitely go with a 2016 and I highly recommend going premium + nav to get the Sync 3. You'll like it so much better over the Sync 2 that was in the 2013/2014s (and way over the MyFordTouch in the 2015s )

Track package, track package. Go with the premium if you can afford it and recaros if you are slight or medium build. If you are a big guy, you will hate them.

Good luck!! Go with Premium for sure.

Always better to get 16 over a 15 in case of bad wreck or stolen.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

It looks like I'm going to get a reasonable settlement from the insurance company. The good news is that GT's don't seem to depreciate that much.

I'm looking for a car with Recaros, but I'm not having much luck finding one with a manual. I'm going to start looking this weekend and maybe I'll get lucky.

I'll let everyone know what I end up with and the kind of deal I was able to pull.

Regards,

The Recaros stink for daily driving, imo; way too hard. The regular seats do a great job of holding you in place and are comfy.
Just my two-cents.

There is little difference between a 2015 and a 2016 other than a few minor non drivetrain related changes. If you have the chance to get a 2015 that shouldn't sway you.

Thanks for the inputs!

I'm eyeing a GT Premium right now. It doesn't have the sports package, but I'm planning on performing suspension modifications. I'm hoping the light weight 18's from my old car will fit the new car. The car does have the 3.55 which should be able to provide me with the gearing I need for those wheels (if they fit). The 3.73 that comes with the sports package will probably be too short for autocross.

Right now though, I'm still waiting on my insurance company to finalize the settlement on the car. It may be until next week when I'm able to get the new car.
